We here at the Altered Stitch have a strong passion for supporting and cultivating indie dyers no matter what stage of the game they’re in. Whether you are just getting your feet wet in the fiber world, or you have achieved some success and are looking to take your business to the next level, participating in this amazingly supportive fiber arts collective can be a gateway to exploring many new possibilities!
Our shop is dedicated to showcasing the talents of indie dyers---not only in the stock that we carry, but through year-round special events such as our Eye on Indie Dyer Series and our participation in Stitches West.
The Altered Stitch made its first appearance at Stitches West in February of 2016! It has been a very important part of our story to seek out and support Indie Artists and we are now taking the next steps in that journey by offering Indie Dyers a platform to showcase their work at a major event without having to take on the cost of coming to a show like Stitches West.
Through our participation in Stitches West and Stitches SoCal as well as indie dyer focused events we hold at our shop, we hope to grow The Fibre Collective and cultivate the relationship not only between the shop and indie dyers, but between indie dyers from across the globe! If you'd like to be considered for participation in The Fibre Collective and join our family, please send an inquiry on our contact page!
In loving memory of Leah SK Davidson...
It’s with deep sadness that we announce the loss of the core of The Fibre Collective; of its heart and soul; its founder, Leah SK Davidson. She unexpectedly passed away Saturday, October 29th, 2016, surrounded by her family.
Her dream was to cultivate an environment to support independent fiber artists and share their artistry with the community. Her vision was far greater than a single event, a single idea, or for the benefit of just one, it was to benefit the independent dyer and to help struggling artists follow their dreams. As her team, we will continue to carry out her vision and goals for The Fibre Collective, and to fully realize her vision for The Fiber Community.
The Fibre Collective Initiative aims to provide a space for independent fiber artists from around the world to grow their businesses and share their talent. Leah's vision was to create a platform to support these artists, to help them get discovered, and to create a space for consumers to go to find new and exciting artists. Donations to The Fibre Collective Initiative will go to help fund The Fibre Collective in terms of advertising, transportation costs, entrance/booth fees, and small wholesale orders to a few select dyers. The Fibre Collective Initiative is managed as a completely separate entity from The Altered Stitch (which handles the sales of all yarn/fiber), and proceeds from the sale of any yarn/fiber purchased by The Fibre Collective Initiative, will be re-invested in The Fibre Collective for future dyers.
